Eleonora Chakraborty received a B.S. in biomedical engineering from Purdue University. Her involvement in the Society of Women Engineers started within the Purdue SWE collegiate section, one of the largest collegiate sections in the country. She planned several outreach events for K-12 students and professional development events for fellow SWE collegiate members.

Since graduating, Eleonora has been involved in leadership within the SWE Chicago Regional Section. She was the SWE-CRS Vice President of Outreach for FY21 and FY22 and last year’s President. She believes that the fascination of engineering should be accessible to every student—engineers, specifically women engineers, have contributed to countless innovations that make the world work and outreach is important to show students what is and what could be.

Eleonora works as an Associate Director, Global Regulatory Affairs at a medical device manufacturer, located in Chicago, IL.  She has 10 years of combined R&D and global regulatory strategy experience at start-up, mid-size, and large-sized companies for a variety of medical devices, including implants, critical care catheters, software, hardware, sutures, and IVDs.  She specialized in global strategy, registrations, and leading interactions with regulatory authorities.  Outside her role at work and SWE, she loves to host get-togethers with family and friends, make flower arrangements, and sail in Lake Michigan. Eleonora is looking forward to continuing to advocate and mentor women in engineering as the SWE CRS FY24 President.

Belen Hernandez received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois Chicago. She has recently been involved with SWE as FY23 Membership Chair for SWE-CRS; planning social events within the Chicago area. Before obtaining a role within the SWE Chicago chapter, Belen would volunteer as a judge reviewing material for WE local collegiate competition or attending SWE sponsored events.

Currently, Belen works as a Senior Engineer in Transmission Planning at ComEd. She has been working in the electric utility space for almost 10 years. At ComEd, she is one of the founders and currently on the committee for a women’s resource group. As a lead on the committee, she plans events for women’s professional development and networking. She is passionate about women’s advancement in the workforce and is an advocate for getting girls into STEM. Outside of work, Belen enjoys being outdoors via hiking or kayaking. She also spends a lot of time with her yellow labrador named Sunflower.  Belen is looking forward to being the SWE CRS FY24 Treasurer.
